Green Buildng

What is the Hype All About?

The EPA definition of green building: Green building is the practice of creating structures and using processes that are environmentally responsible and resource-efficient throughout a building's life-cycle from siting to design, construction, operation, maintenance, renovation and deconstruction. This practice expands and complements the classical building design concerns of economy, utility, durability, and comfort. Green building is also known as a sustainable or high performance building. (Find out more about the History of Green Building in the US.)

So is all the hype worth it? Yes! And we at Monte Hewett Homes have been building green homes since 2003 because we think it is just the right thing to do. We build our homes and townhomes to meet or exceed EarthCraft and ENERGY STAR certification. Why is this important? Because our homes are inspected and certified by a third-party inspector, so YOU know your home is truly "green."

Green homes are designed to reduce the overall impact of the built environment on human health and the natural environment by:

  • Efficiently using energy, water, and other resources
  • Protecting occupant health and improving employee productivity
  • Reducing waste, pollution and environmental degradation
