| Keeping your lawn
green with no rain and water restrictions |
| |
A major component to any new
Atlanta home is the landscaping. Everyone wants to keep their
home picture perfect from the outside to the inside, but with the
lack of recent rains and new water restrictions in Atlanta, it can
be a challenge. This month, Monte Hewett Homes wanted to
review the recent restrictions in the City of Atlanta, Cobb county,
Roswell and Gwinnett, as well as provide you with tips on using water
responsibly.
|
| |
Restrictions: We have done our best to
compile the water restrictions for counties and cities with current
Monte Hewett Homes projects. Please note: this is just a
guide and not an official listing. Restrictions can change at
any moment.
-
City
of Atlanta (from www.atlantawatershed.org): "May
24, 2007 – The Department of Watershed Management is instituting
new service-area-wide restrictions on watering. City of Atlanta
customers may only water outdoors on Saturdays and Sundays
between midnight and 10 a.m.; even-numbered addresses on
Saturday and odd-numbered addresses on Sunday. No outdoor
watering is allowed Monday through Friday until further notice.
This service area includes the City of Atlanta, Sandy Springs
and unincorporated South Fulton County."
-
Cobb County (from
www.cobbcountyga.gov): "June 5, 2007 - In compliance with
a statewide mandate by the Georgia Department of Natural
Resources, outdoor water use restrictions in Cobb County have
been elevated to Level 2 of the Basic Drought Schedule for
Outdoor Water Use. Restrictions include: No outdoor water
use between 10 a.m. and midnight daily. Even-numbered, or
unnumbered addresses may water only on Mondays, Wednesdays, and
Saturdays. Odd-numbered addresses may water only on Tuesdays,
Thursdays, and Sundays. No washing of hard surfaces (sidewalks,
driveways, curbs, etc. unless a public health issue). No outdoor
water use on Fridays."
-
City of Roswell: (from
www.roswellgov.com): "June 4, 2007 - The City of Roswell
will adjust watering restrictions to meet those imposed by the
Fulton County Water System, effective immediately. Under the
revised restrictions, outdoor water use will be limited to
weekends only. Even numbered addresses are permitted to use
water for outdoor purposes on Saturday mornings between midnight
and 10 a.m., and odd numbered addresses are permitted to use
water on Sunday mornings from midnight to 10 a.m."
-
Gwinnett County (from
www.co.gwinnett.ga.us): "June 6, 2007 - The State of
Georgia currently limits outdoor water use to three mornings per
week. Gwinnett County follows the state's regulations:
Even-numbered addresses: Saturday, Monday, Wednesday
Odd-numbered addresses: Sunday, Tuesday, Thursday No watering
after 10:00am. No watering on Fridays.

Quick Tip
from the Monte Hewett Homes Service Department, Addie
Cunningham
Most of
the automatic sprinkler systems will reset to 30 mins
per zone when
they lose their programming. If you lose
electrical power to your home, be sure to
check the programming in your sprinkler system.
For most locations, 10 minutes per zone is more than
enough!! |
Water conservation tips:
According to Georgia's department of natural resources outdoor
water consumption during the summer months increases 60%. Just
imagine the serve impact this has on our water reserves, streams and
rivers, not to mention wildlife and their habitats. Here are
some tips to help conserve water, save time, and save money!

-
Water plants only as needed.
Did you know that most plants only need 1 inch of water every 7
to 10 days to stay healthy?
-
Simple
sprinkling everyday is not as effective as a deep soaking.
Water your plants ONCE a week with a deep soaking of the
roots to get the best results.
-
Don't water during the
heat of the day. The best times for watering is round
3am-9pm: set your sprinkler system to work while you
sleep.
-
When it rains, DON'T OVER
WATER. All systems have a shut-off. Be sure to
use that shut-off when we finally do get a good rain.
-
Keep your plants covered.
Mulch is the key. Use bark, pine straw, or other
coverage to keep the soil unexposed to the sun.
-
Do you know more lawns are
damaged by OVER-Watering than Under-Watering? Try placing
a coffee can on your lawn. When the level of water in the
can reaches 1 inch deep, your lawn has had enough water.

Sherwood Park - Townhome and Model
Home to open June 18th |
|
|
|

Monte Hewett Homes is pleased to
announce the newest addition to the family, Sherwood Park.
Sherwood Park offers the opportunity to move into an
as-yet-discovered area of the trendy Smyrna community with 57
three-story townhomes and 36 single family homes situated among
pockets of greenspace and a neighborhood pool.
Next door to Sherwood, the City of
Smyrna is investing more than $400,000 in Lake Court Park. That
means residents can walk on a private path to access a new dog park,
bocce court, volleyball courts and trails. Some residents will even
have backyards that border Lake Court Park’s acreage.
Plus, like all homes by Monte Hewett, those in Sherwood Park will
meet EarthCraft construction standards for energy efficiency,
minimal environmental impact and cleaner indoor air. And,
prices in this location beat all others with Towhomes in the $400s
and Single-Family homes in the $500s
